A Warm Rustic Winter Styled Shoot – Whitstable East Quay – Kent Wedding Photographer – James Grist Photography

Hey Folks!

Today on the blog is A Warm Rustic Winter ‘Styled Shoot’ at Whitstable East Quay venue . I love organising these types of editorial shoots, it’s great getting together with a helpful team of professionals and getting our creative heads on!

My aim for the shoot was to create a slightly different take on your ‘average’ winter wedding. I didn’t want to go down the tradition Christmas theme route, don’t get me wrong, I love a festive wedding, but for this particular shoot, we wanted something a little more ‘out there’. I wanted something that would perhaps inspire future bride and grooms, to break tradition and not be afraid to try something unique for their day.

I decided on a wintery rustic approach, using the venues inside decor to it’s full potential. I’m really happy with how everything went, everyone who helped out on the day did brilliantly.

Designer Florist: Dora Kovacs

Using plants mainly to create a botanically style setting . Dora mixed it up with rustic elements and props to propagate an autumn ambiance. The array of rich colours is one of the pleasures of the season and this eye-catching table display captures the vibrant mood perfectly. Shades of matt grey, champagne, burnt brown, shades of green – all complementing each other in one warm, wintery wedding

Dress: Federica Bruno

The wedding dress was a lush couture bridal gown, hand made by Frederica Bruno. It featured beads and white silk buttons, beautifully sewn into the fabric to created a magnificent and extravagant piece, accentuated by the rich, silky fabric

MUA: Amanda White

Winter weddings are something of a passion of mine. Maybe its because I was born in November… But there is something about the style of winter that can make a wedding so unique and rustic. I felt that Dora and James captured this beautifully and with an amazing venue ” The East Quay” It was a pleasure to see it all come to life.

Dora was a wizard at creating magical backdrops for this shoot and with earthy, ice like flowers I knew I wanted to echo this through makeup. I wanted Helens eyes to be the focal point so we opted for soft, greys and taupes and then smoked it up a bit with dark aubergines and shimmering golds to make her piecing green eyes pop. I then used lots of mascara and eyeliner to enhance her eyes. It was a take on the ” Smokey Eye” but with shades of burnt ambers and charcoal amethyst. We kept her lips nude and her complexion dewy using my favourite foundation for brides -” Giorgio Armani Luminous silk foundation” Its just the right balance of dewy – perfect for a crisp winter day.

We created two hairstyles for this shoot – One was a relaxed, softly curled, almost whimsical style. That was down. This worked great with Doras twig like crown.

The Venue: The East Quay

We allowed you to use the venue as it is a great way to show off the Whitstable/Seaside wedding possibilities and let people see what a 160 year old venue can be the perfect setting for an intimate occasion. Couples are coming to us more and more to have a more informal and fun day, a big party with family and friends to celebrate their love and commitment! The beach is a perfect setting for this and I am sure your photos will do it excellent justice.
