Alan & Gemma’s Seaside Wedding at The East Quays Whitstable

Hey Folks, Today on the blog is Gemma & Alan’s Fun,Relaxed Seaside wedding at The East Quays, Whitstable. Thank you for such a great day guys! I loved spending the day at your wedding! Can we do it all again 😀 Much Love! All The Best for the future. Enjoy !

Where did you get married/why did you choose the venue did you have any type of theme to your day/ colour schemes.

I have worked in events for the last 15 years and so wanted to find somewhere that was a bit unique and didn’t just create the same looking weddings. It was one sunny day in Whitstable that we stumbled across the East Quay Venue and everything about it was perfect! It’s a fantastic space with gorgeous views, its intimate but also spacious, the décor is quirky but it’s also a blank canvas which allows you to make it totally personal to you.

We toyed with a number of themes but nothing felt right and so after months of trawling Pinterest, we finally decided on a nautical colour scheme of Navy & Coral. It was a bit off the usual wedding colours but all came together so well on the day! (well we thought so!!! :-))

Which flowers did you choose?

We were lucky enough to have an amazing florist, Kay. She is a friend of a friend and just starting out in the floristry world but totally exceeded all of our expectations! The tables were gorgeous and her stair case design beautiful! Our brief to her was so loose, I think all I asked for was a ‘non structured bouquet with ribbons’ and gave her the colours. I wanted her to have full creative decisions and the fact I know nothing about flowers, meant I could leave it up to her and not worry!

The main flowers she used were amazing large peonies, sweetpeas, roses, clematis, eremurus, waxflower and delphiniums

Which style was the brides dress? i.e fishtail, a-line, backless, halter neck, lacey etc please describe your favourite aspects and why you chose it.

I always had in my head that I would wear a vintage dress but in actual fact I ended up with a sparkly princess dress! It was a simple design with a beaded top and simple full skirt but I loved it! I am so thrilled that I went for a statement dress rather than understated! You only get to wear one once!

How did you have your hair/make up and why? For example.. -natural? -bold ? -to match the wedding theme as a whole?

I don’t tend to wear lots of makeup and so wanted to keep in natural but after finding a legend of a makeup artist in Clare Lake, she convinced me to go heavier on the eye and keep a more nude lip which worked really well with the dress and I was delighted with the overall look!

I always wanted my hair up (as its normally a bit wild) and have a bit of vintage feel. Shelley my hairdresser created a fantastic look which was natural but with a 50s feel.

Which colour did the groomsmen/ bridesmaids wear?

The boys weren’t all in matching suits but we went for Navy suits with silver ties. We added the colour in with the button hole and also some crazy socks for them all!

Our bridesmaids and flowers girls looked gorgeous in Navy & White dresses which we have specially made to fit in with the colour scheme and then added some coral flowers on the waistband. My maid of honour also was in navy with a coral flower.

How did you feel that the day went as a whole? Are there any special moments/memories that you’d like to share?

I know its clichéd but we loved every minute of it. Our special moment was our ceremony, we both felt so nervous but the minute we saw each other, everything fell into place. Our ceremony was a total ‘blub’ fest with us both crying through most of it but it was so intimate and beautiful, we wouldn’t change it now!

The venue – I spent months stressing about how all the elements would work together and I was over the moon as I walked in as it was better than I ever imagined!

The Cake – Vanessa from The sparkling spatula created the most magical cakes for us. We had a beautiful two tier cake to cut, an amazing selection of Navy & coral macaroons and meringue kisses and then for dessert, we had 3 different varieties of cake jars served to guest….all of which were delicious (as Bride & Groom we pulled rank and tried all of them)!!!

Speeches – From my dad, to Alan to our best men – everyone did a cracking job with the speeches… there was a good mix of tears and laughter!

Our photographer – you were brilliant! You fitted in so well to our big day and everyone loved you. People still think you were just a guest who took the pics!! That’s what you want from a wedding photographer!
