Tom & Nicola’s Surrey Barn Wedding Day
Hey Folks! Today on the blog is Nicola & Tom’s Wedding Day! Nicola & Tom got married at St George’s Church, Bickley, on a very sunny Saturday in December, followed by their reception at The Red Barn in Lingfield.
Why did you choose your venue:- We chose to be married there because Nicola’s family have been going to the church for many years and it’s beautiful inside and out. We followed the ceremony with a reception at The Red Barn in Lingfield, a stunning rustic pub which was warm and Christmassy – perfect for the time of year!
We wanted it to be a relaxed reception with good food, plenty to drink and lots of dancing so that everyone left in high spirits, anticipating the fun and festivities to come. The Red barn provided the brilliant food, our friend Claire brewed us our special beer and The Blue Rinse band kept everyone dancing all evening! It was great!
What were your colour schemes for the day:- Despite it being Christmas time, we chose not to have a typical Christmas colour scheme and flowers. Instead we picked burnt orange, burgundy and purple and chose rustic, textured bouquets and button holes to pop against the dark purple dresses and blue suits. We coupled that with hessian jars filled with beautiful fresh flowers for the tables that were all hand crafted by Tom’s mum, Susan – what a star! Our best man hand made fresh wooden tea light holders for the tables and our tree stump cake stand to complement the open beams and wooden features in the barn. Instead of a traditional iced cake, we enjoyed a few family afternoons baking a three tiered naked fruitcake – Mum’s trusted Christmas cake recipe.
The Dress:- which design did you choose and why?* My dress was by Linea Raffaelli and was the second one I put on. When we walked out of the shop mum said to me ‘Tom would pick that dress for you wouldn’t he’…she was right! After 35 other dresses, I realised why I loved it so much – because it was totally different to any other dress I’d tried and I could imagine walking down the aisle in it. I loved the detailed back, the large appliqué lace and the simple shape with a small puddle train. I teamed it with a floor length veil with small crystals to give it the whole outfit a Christmas sparkle in the church candle light.
I knew I wanted to have my hair put up to show off the back of the dress and so I chose a classic style with a small plait in one side and a little sparkle in the other. Make up was again quite simple – I wanted to make sure I looked like me but I was keen for it to feel a little more glam for our special day. Gemma and Hayley did an amazing job, I was totally chuffed and so were the bridesmaids with their hair and makeup too.
What did your Bridesmaids & Groomsmen wear:- Sarah, Nicola and Emma the bridesmaids wore a beautiful purple lace dress from Coast which matched perfectly with the usher’s ties. Tom, Sam the best man, the ushers and the Dads all wore
How do you feel the day went:- We can safely say we had the best day of our lives. It went by in a whirlwind but we loved every second. Being surrounded by all our friends and family was the best feeling, we smiled all day and feel so grateful that everything went exactly as we had planned. The memories will last a lifetime. Thank you to James for capturing it all so perfectly. Ted Baker blue three piece suits – they all looked great! The contrast of the bright flowers against the purple and blue was exactly as we hoped, we were so pleased.
Enjoy!
