Sam & Kylie’s St Margarets Bay Pre Wedding Shoot
Hey Folks! Today on the blog is Sam & Kylie’s Pre Wedding Shoot. These guys are due to tie the knot in August this year in a laid back ‘Summer BBQ’ themed day. Sam and Kylie have chosen an awesome eco venue called The Pines Calyx in St. Margaret’s Bay, Dover.
How did you decide on your venue? Just at the bottom of the zig-zag path on the bay, is where I got down on one knee and proposed to Kylie! We spent the day together and camped out in the van that night down by the beach. We’re both from Kent but at the time I (Kylie) was living and working in London, so any free time I had to come visit we’d escape the to beach together. We wanted to get married somewhere we loved to visit, so that in years to come on our anniversaries we could drive down and spend a day, or a night in the van together to celebrate! Also this beach has a very ‘ugly beautiful’ look about it which we both love, full of colour, the green moss, cooper rust on the railings and the iconic white cliffs. The venue itself is a short walk from the bay. It’s a quirky, eco building full of character. It has a grass roof resembling a hobbit house, much to the amusement of friends and family as neither of us are all that tall! It’s surrounded by stunning gardens with cute garden paths full of crushed shells and wild foliage. It’s very open with a view of the sea which definitely sold it to us.
What theme have you chosen? We have gone for a very non-traditional wedding. Very calm and very relaxed, more of a summer BBQ vibe by the sea. We have chosen a BBQ rather than a sit down dinner and we have purchased plenty of booze for everyone! We are both very laid back people and let’s be honest, we are both not very up to date with the latest fashions etc so our wedding is definitely more of a party/celebration to match our relaxed personalities.
Which colours have you chosen and why? We’re being very greedy with colours. I love anything green and Sam loves orange (hence the bright orange wheels on our camper) but I also like coral (in keeping with the seaside/beachy theme), so we’ve got them all haha!
Which flowers have you chosen and why? Anything coral, orange, wild, with plenty of greenery. Oh and daisies! Love daisies!
How will the tables be decorated? With the help of friends we’ve munched are way through mad amounts of bolognese sauce, mayonnaise and anything jarred, so we could use them as vases for flowers and tea lights. That, and seashells we bought in a cool little sea side shop in hastings (another little seaside town we like to visit).
Are there any other details you’d like to share about your day? All the decorations, invites etc have all been handmade, mostly from recycled goods, in keeping with the venue but mostly because we love a bargain and love to get creative! Most girls get excited about the prospect of wearing a posh dress…I couldn’t wait to get gluing and sticking!!
