Featured Work: Country Styled Shoot At The Red Barn – Juno & Joy Wedding Blog

Hey Folks! Last month a had the pleasure of working with the Red Barn wedding venue for a ‘Country’ themed styled shoot. I absolutely love these types of shoots, its great hooking up with different talented suppliers in the industry. I’m super chuffed to see it featured on ‘Juno & Joy’ Wedding Blog! Check it out!

A Rustic Wedding Inspired Shoot In The Surrey Countryside

Barn weddings are becoming more and more popular in the UK yet it tends to be the US that leads the way with rustic wedding inspiration due to couples having celebrated in such a way for far longer that us. When today’s styled shoot submission from James Grist popped into our inbox I new we had to showcase. It’s a beautiful example of what can be achieved here on home soil. Contemporary country wedding style that makes the best of our beautiful seasons and talented suppliers, where’s what James had to say…

My main aim for this styled shoot was to show off as many of the Red Barn’s stunning features as possible. I wanted to give emphasis on the potential the venue has to offer and capture its raw beauty, to inspire future couples. The barn itself is 300 years old and is full to the brim of interesting objects. It boasts wooden beams, charming bare brickwork and plenty of other rustic details within it. When it came to photographing the wedding stationary made by Sophie Kent, we really were spoilt for choice, with the old textures and eye catchy areas to use. For the all important bride and groom shots, we concentrated more on the grounds and used the rustic textures on the outside of the building as a backdrop. The photo possibilities at the Red Barn are endless and this is also seen in the gardens with their picturesque natural beauty.

And brief summaries from the rest of the team…

From dress boutique Heleana Fortley: Blanche is a stunning gown made up of elegant English net and Angelique lace with a fit and flare gown with cap sleeves. This dress features a plunging illusion neckline, scalloped lace hem, covered buttons and a sweep train.

Florist Dora Kovacs: The venue has a fresh, delightful, country feel to it, accentuated by it’s natural oak and rustic ambience and finish. The flowers were a combination of vibrant, vivacious charm, couple with bright pinks, orange and yellow variegated poppies with a hint of citrus, to create a beautifully fresh and zesty aroma. The brides bouquet was a exaggerated mix of nigella and allium to created a relaxed, flirty and floaty piece.

Hair & Make Up by Amanda White: The inspiration for the make-up for this look was to focus on the models eyes. I wanted them to appear bright and neutral but with a hint of a smoulder behind the eyes. I didn’t want a full on Smokey eye but just a little definition to make the depth of her brown eyes stand out. For this look I used a mixture of Bobbi brown shades and MAC.

Her slightly olive tone to her skin I wanted to bring to life by using a slightly dewier finish of foundation to capture radiance in her complexion. For this I used Giorgio Armani’s luminous silk foundation, which is one of my all time favourites. I then buffed Chanel’s Soleil de tan along the places you would naturally bronze in the sun to give a bit more of a sun-kissed springtime look.
For her hair we opted for two looks one up-style which we kept very loose and textured. I didn’t want anything fussy to mimic the rustic-ness throughout the shoot at the Red Barn.
For the second hair look I opted for her hair down but in an almost 70’s inspired loose wave. I wanted the hair to have movement but not be too bouncy with curls.

From the venue The Red Barn: We decided to do a styled photo shoot to showcase the barn using the rustic, shabby chic style which is in keeping with the barn and currently on demand with most brides that walk through the door. The photos will help visualise the potential of the barn space and what it has to offer, also to be able to offer a few ideas for potential couples.

What a beautiful and eclectic venue…and I just adore the laid back yet elegant country vibe of it all.
