Emma & Lucy’s Upwaltham Barn Wedding Day
Where did you get married, and what made you chose this venue?
We chose Upwaltham Barns before we’d even left the carpark area. We completely fell in love with the charm of the venue and its setting. It was just an original venue surrounded by the most beautiful countryside scenery.
What was the theme to your day,What colours did you choose, and why?
We wanted an old, vintage feel to our wedding. Autumnal vibes to it. We didn’t really follow a wedding colour as such but wanted our wedding party to all have a matching colour in their outfits so we chose the colour aubergine. This colour was warm and suited all skin tones and hair colours.
Which flowers did you choose?
We didn’t want a lot of flowers as we didn’t want to detract from the beauty of the venue itself. We had a flower garland across the registry table, and meadow flowers on each of the tables. The bridesmaids has dried meadow flower bouquets and the ushers/bridesman had autumnal buttonholes. The brides bouquets consisted of autumnal leaves, berries and flowers.
Lucy’s dress – I wore a long antique mermaid, lace dress, with a low waist and ‘v’ neck. I wore a single pearl necklace that my friend lent me for the day and Jimmy Choo shoes. I loved the elegance of the dress.
Lucy’s make-up: I went for a natural look to my make-up. I didn’t want anything too heavy as I wanted it to suit the style of the dress and the theme of our wedding.
Lucy’s hair: I had a loose bun with flowers. I chose this style because I wanted an understated but classic look to compliment my dress.
The Dress
Emma’s dress – I wore a vintage, lace tea dress. I wore lace sleeves during the ceremony and removed the sleeves (which were attached with poppers) for an alternative look during the evening. I wore a beautiful pair of shoes that had a metal designed fixing that was attached to the back of the heel which really added to the elegance of the shoe. For the accessories, I wore my great aunt’s watch, a beautiful pearl bracelet and droplet earrings.
Emma’s make-up: I do not wear a lot of make-up so wanted to feel comfortable. I asked for natural make-up that would compliment my dress and the tea dress era. I do not usually wear lipstick so again wanted this to be natural.
Emma’s hair: I very rarely wear my hair up so automatically thought I would have my hair down. Our hair stylist actually surprised me with the hair style I went for, a loose hanging bun – it was the wildcard option she had and I loved it.
Which colour did the bridesmaids/groomsmen wear?
For the bridesmaids, we really wanted them to be in outfits that they felt comfortable in, so we decided to provide them with a swatch of the colour of material we wanted and some money and then asked them all to source their own outfits. We were happy for them to express themselves and their personalities – the end result was amazing! Every one of them wore a different style of dress, one even wore a jumpsuit.
For the bridesman and the groomsmen, we did take charge! We wanted them all to be in outfits that suited the theme and style of the venue – a vintage, country feel. We sourced gorgeous tweed waistcoats, which we paired with a stone coloured trouser, white shirt, brown shoes and aubergine tie or bow tie (they got to choose which they preferred).
What was your favourite moment of the day?
My favourite moment hands down was seeing Lucy for the first time as I walked down the aisle.
Lucy – Same as Emma. Seeing her walk down the aisle towards me actually took my breath away! She looked sensational!
How do you feel the day went as a whole?
I found that the whole experience as a package was so amazing. So much thought went into every last detail and so many special people were involved. This is also a very special memory I will never forget.
