Daniel & Michelle’s Surrey Barn Wedding

Daniel & Michelle’s Surrey Barn Wedding

Where did you get married? We chose The Red Barn in Blindley Heath.  We hadn’t actually looked at any other venues but randomly went to The Red Barn for lunch one day and the barn was being set up for a wedding.  We were allowed a peak and both fell in love with it.  We loved the feel of the barn and the fact that we wouldn’t have to do a lot to it because it had so much character with bookcases and a huge fireplace in the centre.  Another bonus was the private outside area – we wanted a very relaxed day so it was great to be able to create a garden party feel after the ceremony outside and then back into the barn for our BBQ sit down meal.

The barn has a real rustic feel to it so we decided to stick with that for our theme.  We didn’t really have a colour scheme but used a lot of hessian and lace to decorate and had a lot of green foliage in our flowers which were place in jars as centre pieces and used all around the barn.

Which flowers did you chose? We knew that we wanted simple cream flowers with lots of green and were over the moon with what Juliet from The Flowerpocket did for us.  She totally got our idea and the bouquets, centre pieces and buttonholes were just amazing. She used dahlias, lisianthus, roses, waxflower and thistle mixed together with silvery foliage – everything was just lovely!

Which style was the brides dress? When looking for my dress the only thing I knew I wanted was lace – I just love lace and it happened to work really well with our rustic theme.  I had been looking for a while and then Carole from The Bridal Way called me convinced that she had found what I was looking for and she was right.  I went for a lace, slight fishtail style dress with a bardot top – it fitted in all the right places and was so light to wear.  As soon as put it on, I knew it was the one.

How did you have your hair and makeup?A friend of mine did my makeup so she knew exactly what I wanted so I didn’t have to think/worry about it too much.  I don’t really wear a lot of makeup so didn’t want anything too heavy – I wanted it to look really natural.

I knew that I wanted my hair up but wasn’t too sure on the style so left it to my amazing hairdresser Rachel.  She curled my hair and pinned it with some stands left lose.

Which colour did the groomsmen/bridesmaids wear?I always wanted the bridesmaids in a light grey – it’s my favourite colour and knew that it was go with the theme well.  I chose a long, halter neck style for the bridesmaids.  I had a variation of ages and this dress seemed to suit them all well.

The groomsmen all wore a three piece, fitted suits.  We chose these to be in navy because we knew that navy and grey would go together well.

How do you feel the day went as a whole? If we had to use one word to describe our day, it was perfect!  I don’t think we could have asked for more – our venue looked stunning, everything ran on time, there were no problems and the sun shone all day!

A favourite part for me was the garden party after our ceremony, before dinner.  We had arranged a band, magician and caricature along with drinks all outside.  It was such a great few hours because people were so relaxed and it was exactly what we wanted.
